Laura A. D. Coffell
Laura was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. After completing her undergraduate degree at the University of Winnipeg in 2010, she relocated to Alberta for law school and has remained in Alberta ever since.
Laura has been practicing exclusively in the area of family law since 2018. Prior to that, Laura practiced civil litigation at a large corporate law firm in Calgary, Alberta where she gained a passion for oral advocacy. In 2016, Laura moved on to work as a Crown Prosecutor with the Alberta Prosecution Service in Wetaskiwin, Alberta. She gained significant experience in a variety of criminal law matters and conducted dozens of trials in both Provincial Court and the Court of Queen's Bench.
Laura was drawn to family law by the ability to help individuals through a potentially difficult period in their lives. She focuses on working with clients to reach a favorable result specific to their needs. Laura's eclectic legal background allows her to bring a unique perspective to each of her files. She is well versed in the art of litigation, has impressive trial experience, and is comfortable taking a file through the court process if necessary. However, Laura will always consider the most efficient and cost-effective way to resolve a file and will explore alternative dispute resolution processes with her clients, if appropriate.
Laura has always been an active member of her community. She was heavily involved in student organizations while earning her undergraduate and law degrees and is currently an active volunteer with Calgary Legal Guidance, Pawsitive Match Rescue Foundation, and Downstage Theatre.
